The Grand River is a source of inspiration for the design of the Waterloo Region Courthouse. This theme starts in the exterior landscape and façade composition and flows into the public space system of the building transitioning from an informal, naturally inspired public realm to a more rectilinear and restrained inner realm representing the rule of law and the institution of justice. The resulting building design addresses a desire for an contemporary, open and accessible institution instead of the traditional expression of power and stability.The complex is on target to achieve LEED silver and is fully accessible. :::: AWARDS: 2013 - Urban Deisgn Awards (UDA), Award of Excellence - Civil Projects;
