When we were designing Ikon Project, we wanted to question the life quality of our times, the relation between changing technology and place and the buildings in the city. We wouldn’t be lying if we say that we found us in Ikon Project while we were questioning our times. Shortly, Ikon Project is the project that gives us clue about the life quality of next 30 years and we worked for that.
Project site is in Göztepe which is one of the most important counties in Anatolian Side of Istanbul. Structure can be perceived from a wide area because of its height. Project site being between the road and the green area makes the form of building thinner and taller. The topics like to make use of the beautiful sight procured by high rise building, to create small flats without compensate comfort and quality occupied us during the design period.
Ikon Project which is earthquake resistant has the most improved reinforcements in the world. Steel constructions were prefered for high rise buildings until 10 years ago. But today it is proved that reinforced concrete construction is more secure. Reinforced concrete construction is more fire resistant than steel consturctions. Ikon is a well-thought-of building that provides modern and comfortable life which includes elevators designed for high rise buildings, ventilation system and special equipments.
We reduced three eliptic towers into one single building which is worthy of the name “Ikon” (“Icon”) with connecting their terrace. Because “Icon” is a contentful word, symbol value of a building like this had to be high. Green fields had been created on upper floors like hanging gardens of babylon for the people who lives in this building. Also, connecting the towers to each other with terraces which on different levels ended up well statically. In simulation tests which involves gust and earthquake, towers displayed cooperative behavior with each other.
