’Home’ is a notion with both physical and abstract dimensions that need a corporeal entity into which emotions can be poured. This home, designed for the family of the Managing Director at ‘W’, the well-known women’s brand across India, exemplifies the elegance of wood in every other way, which becomes the expression of the homeowners. This urban Gurugram penthouse, planned across an 8000 square feet area, encapsulates a sense of royalty with the warmth of wood.

The home had specific aesthetic directions as well: the client’s love for wood dictated the mood board of the design narrative while the modest neutral scheme made the colourful artworks stand out. Owing to creating a serene ambience that intertwines luxury and eloquence, the designers from Design21 have gone for minimal finishes on the walls and focused on details that would collectively bolster the spatial experience. In this endeavour, colours, textures, and decorative details were the tools of choice, creating several corners and focal walls that now elicit admiration.

The idea behind this penthouse was to create an uncluttered, spacious living with a pragmatic design that included a foyer, spacious living room dining rooms, two family lounges, a kitchen, five bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms, and a large terrace overlooking the golf course.

With a long passage embellished with prolonged mirrors, wood, pristine white walls, and metal trim inlays, the home speaks of delicate refinement right from the entrance foyer. Warm lighting with a crystal chandelier at the end makes the experience more inviting. The foyer leads to a vast expanse of living-dining areas where the family entertains elite guests. The living room makes a statement with a monochrome colour palette while playing with wooden textures. Wooden fluting along one wall guides the eye towards the array of decor items nestled amidst the wall, creating a niche.

A wooden shelf and upholstered sofa, along with the abundance of natural light from tall windows, bring warmth to the living room. With an open-plan layout, the living-dining area features seamless marble stone flooring that complements the design aesthetic, creating a lavish space. The dining also showcases a similar subdued palette of greige and wood, with hints of golden accents. The interior woodwork, custom-made streamlined furnishings, and appropriate lighting- all work together to identify this communal space.

Moving further, the family lounge depicts luxury with plush furnishings in greige upholstery, a swing chair, and a solid wood TV console. The wall panels with fluted shutters give continuity to the design narrative. They feature family photographs that add a sense of personalization and enliven this area.

Since the homeowners were firm believers in personalizing spaces, each bedroom is designed to express a distinct theme and mood. Wooden coatings and colours are fused to create rooms that preserve individuality while also balancing the overall home décor. The élite application of Polyurethane in both matt and satin coats beautifully blends into the room's end-to-end texture. The idea of defining light fixtures into the immaculate white ceiling is a thoughtful approach that allows light to circulate throughout the space. The bedside tables are kept minimal, but the dramatic pendant lights add charisma to the space.

While the blend of whites and wood gives the bedrooms a certain allure, the girls' bedroom is suffused in shades of pink as per their specific liking and accentuated with gold mouldings to create a warm, cozy and glamorous private space. The outdoor deck that extends from the lounge is adorned with planters and surface greens.

The neutral colours and geometric composition enable the exquisite material palette to shine out and lend character to the décor. Wood, marble, glass, gleaming metal, and textures in brown, grey, and beige add to the inviting and spacious ambience of the home.
