Why National Institute of Design (NID) in Bhopal ?
• National institute of Design Is on expansion mode.
• The creation of 4 new NID was suggested as part of government 2007 national design policy
• The NID Bhopal is coming up on 28.5 acres of land, and is expected to offer undergraduate and post graduate courses from 2019-2020.
• This will be fifth NID campus in the country.

Background of Acharpura :
• Acharpura is a village in the Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh.
• It is situated about 16.5 km away from Bhopal.
• In the 2000s, the Government of Madhya Pradesh made attempts to develop the area into a "Special Education Zone", with an investment of approximately Rs 71 crore on an area of 140 hectares, where as many as 19 educational institutes are coming up. Also, a number of industrial units will also come in proximity.

Site Features :
• Site has only one access which is from a 9 m wide road along the south corner of this site.
• Surrounding sites are not yet developed. Site is away from the city.
• Public facilities on Khajuri road are not so developed.
• Population density & vehicle density is very low in Acharpura Hence no noise pollution.
• An opportunity to create a unique image for a design institute because the site is far away from the main city of Bhopal, Therefore there is no particular contextual background of building type.
