What if an artist could display their work in a venue that is as unique and personal as their own art? What if it was possible to reconfigure a space instantly to positively affect the quality of light and views in order to compliment the art?

Slip&Slide, is a sustainable, modular system of surfaces that encourages the process of reconfiguration to respond to the uniqueness of the art being displayed. Simply by sliding panels incrementally, in both the horizontal and vertical axis, a box dynamically changes into a porous framework of apertures, transforming and sculpting light and framing site specific views.

Slip&Slide proposes to use 4’ x 6’ panels made from 50% recycled cardboard, making each gallery respond to the sustainable demands of today. Several paper-based fiber composite manufactures have used cardboard for its durability and weather-proofing, making it an ideal surface for outdoor skate ramps. The galleries can be easily dismantled allowing the cardboard panels to be reused to construct a new skate ramp park for the community.

Slip&Slide’s flexibility allows the artist to accommodate a variety of artistic mediums ranging from tall sculptural artwork to photography to video projection. Additionally, the temporary galleries have been designed to be easily arranged in order to encourage movement, destination, and a sense of place. At night, the galleries become a unique yet unified field of light, redefining art and public space.
