Marc Koehler Architects together with ONZ Architects Turkish city of Kastamonu won the competition to design a new campus for higher education. The campus is designed as an asymmetric star, whose arms symbolize the "far-reaching aspirations of learners spirits.
campus provides space for 10,000 students, of which two thousand housing will be on the premises. Users get their own 'city', inspired by the Greek agora, where there is space for teaching, meeting and commerce. Colonnades, glades and sunken green spaces set the scene. The central square is increased to reduce the scale of the campus and create. thus a more intimate atmosphere In addition, technical and infrastructural facilities are hidden from view by placing them. Below the pedestrian area , the arms of the star perform multiple roles. They provide a gradual transition from the educational facilities through recreational and residential functions to the surrounding landscape. They also make natural ventilation and they are so oriented to the sun that the buildings take full advantage of the daylight. 's educational buildings are designed as flexible, modular systems that make them suitable for future adaptations. This also applies to the houses, which are grouped around a lake. A theater, a canteen and a sports complex are housed in the most notable buildings of the campus. Most of these facilities are open to the public, so that the campus will also get a public function. The energy system is sustainable, as is provided, inter alia, a geothermal climate system based on water. There were 156 architects participated in the contest. Architectenweb did not yet find out if and when the winning plan is implemented.
