Rogers recognised in Queen’s birthday honours

Richard Rogers joined an elite order of distinguished figures in the Queen’s birthday honours list announced last weekend.Thearchitect, whose best-known work includes the Millennium Dome and thePompidou Centre as well as Heathrow Terminal 5, was the exclusiverecipient of the Companion of Honour award.The Order of theCompanions of Honour celebrates leading figures from the worlds ofarts, science, politics, industry, literature, religion and industry.Existing members include David Attenborough, Lucian Freud, IanMcKellen, David Hockney and former prime minister John Major. No morethan 65 members can sit on the order at any one time.Rogers,who was knighted in 1992 and made Baron of Riverside in 1996, was giventhe commendation for “public service and for services to architecture”.He will now be able to add the letters ‘CH’ to the end of his name.GrahamCartledge, chairman of Benoy since 1992, was also honoured in the listwith a CBE for services to architecture and charity.Sheila Harvey, a librarian at the Landscape Institute, received an award for services to landscape architecture.
