London Festival of Architecture 2014, 1-30 June
This weekend the London Festival of Architecture 2014 celebrates the culmination of the International Architecture Showcase, programmed by the British Council and Bow Arts Trust, with a vertical carnival of events, workshops and tours in and around Ernö Goldfinger's iconic Balfron Tower. Exploring the fresh perspectives émigré architects bring to London as an international Capital, the international programme has paired ten UK practices with architects from Austria, Chile, Denmark, Estonia, Iran, Latvia, Nigeria, South Africa, Taiwan and Uganda to collaborate on new ideas for Poplar in East London
Also on Saturday, The Death and Life of Great London High Streets returns with expert-guided visits to Kingston Town Centre, Blackhorse Lane,Green Lanes and Barking Town Centre. Each tour will showcase projects by some of London's most interesting architects that have resulted from over £175 million of investment by the Mayor of London and partners. This Sunday the first RA LEGO Architecture Challenge will take place at the Royal Academy of Arts. Stirling prize-winners Zaha Hadid Architects, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, Stanton Williams and Witherford Watson Mann will be taking part in the LEGO 'battle' to create proposals for a new cultural quarter in London. Not to be missed.
