In addition to indexing the repercussions of human influenced climate change, water has also been the subject (and medium) of a tradition of city-making impulses which Chicago has certainly followed. The current climate crisis is an opportunity to once again re-shape our understanding of the city. 

At one end of the scale, water issues quickly surpass typical boundaries of jurisdiction and governance, trickling up to define and impact unexpectedly larger territories. At a smaller scale, individual and community actions begin to increasingly weigh in outside the systems of big infrastructure. This discussion among some of the city’s leading thinkers on water will address the repercussions of actions from one scale to another.
