Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, NOISE Festival 2014 Curator for Architecture
The renowned British architect behind the Eden Project and London’s Waterloo International Terminal, Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, is confirmed as Architecture & Interior Design Curator for NOISE Festival 2014. The former President of the Royal Academy of Arts and RIBA Awards winner will personally rate online entries submitted by undiscovered talent to the arts showcase website NOISEfestival.com, and for his top five choices Sir Grimshaw will be giving career guidance and mentorship.
“I am here to support the NOISE idea about encouraging young creative people to send in their work for consideration and judging; who I will help to pursue their careers and mentor at the end of the whole process” Sir Nicholas Grimshaw
In an interactive Q&A webinar to be broadcast live on 26th March 2014 online for the wider public, 8 artists are selected at random from the best NOISE Festival 2014 Architecture and Interiors entries submitted before then. Those picked for the webinar still remain in the running to be exclusively selected by Sir Nicholas for the 2014 Festival, doubling their chances to gain exclusive access to the phenomenal line-up of NOISE Festival 2014 Curators.
Finding himself homeless in London in the 1960s, Sir Nicholas took advantage of a then Government initiative and founded a co-ownership housing scheme, becoming his own first client in the process. Grimshaw sees this as his breakthrough moment, as a young architect in charge of a substantial London scheme, through which he developed a standing in the industry.
“The most important thing is not to be proud; you have to take on anything whether it is a bus shelter or a bike store for a local school. There is nothing however small that you cannot use some design ability on.”
Recognising the difficulties of the next generation to find breakthrough moments like his own in the 1960s, Sir Nicholas Grimshaw wants to open up career opportunities through the NOISE Festival initiative.
The biennial “NOISE Festival”, produced by the award-winning NOISEfestival.com Charity, offers the best undiscovered creative talent, from across Europe, the unique opportunity to gain recognition, media exposure, mentorship and job opportunities. Simply by entering their creative work, for free, via e-Portfolios on NOISEfestival.com.
In Autumn 2014, the Curator’s choices are announced and offered paid placements with their Curator’s or related leading creative companies. NOISE Festival provides other career boosting outcomes for young artists via media partnerships and pro/amateur collaborations at showcase events. Previous festivals have attracted a total international audience of 8.5million.
The Chairman of Grimshaw Architects, joins a stellar line-up of high-profile Curators across 14 categories such as Fashion, Fine Art, Music, Photography, Graphics, Film, Product Design and Enterprise. The leading names include pioneering musician Brian Eno, prominent fashion designer Giles Deacon, games legend Ian Livingstone CBE (Tomb Raider), acclaimed cartoonist Gerald Scarfe CBE (Pink Floyd’s The Wall), Publicis London’s Creative Director Andy Bird, product design brand SUCK UK, and more.
