The School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, invites qualified academics/professionals to apply for a faculty position as Assistant or Associate Professor in Exhibition Design and Production.

ADM is currently developing a teaching and research focus in Exhibition Design and Production, aimed at creating a balanced integration of academic design and technical expertise. Graduates should possess the professional skills and depth of knowledge needed to create experiences that engage, educate, and inform audiences ranging from students and scholars to the general public. They should also have the ability to assume the responsibilities of storytellers, communicators and visitor advocates. Emphasis is placed on a variety of areas of inquiry, including the role design plays in the communication of objects, ideas, and information in a museum or exhibition environment; strategies for audience engagement with an emphasis on the interpretative exhibition experience; and functionality and aesthetics of exhibition design and their impact on environmental sustainability.

Exhibition Design and Production is seen as an increasingly vital component throughout the entire curriculum offered at ADM. Accordingly, the successful applicant will be expected to teach and conduct research in an interdisciplinary mode, and across a variety of fields which may include Exhibition Design, Environmental Design, Visual Communication, Interior Design, Interaction Design, Graphic Design, Audience Experience and Interaction, Spatial Narrative, Multimodal Environments, Experimental, Immersive and Augmented Media. Other courses in the candidate’s area of specialization would be most welcome.

Recently, in 2013, in collaboration with the Singapore Economic Development Board, ADM/NTU established the Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA). The successful candidate would be expected to play a central role in the academic, research and exhibition activities of the CCA.

The school
ADM is committed to developing a global program and we welcome applications from candidates with international as well as regional expertise. The successful candidate should be able to engage students historically, socially, and conceptually and inspire imaginative, critical and interdisciplinary reflection across theory and practice. ADM provides excellent opportunities for funded research and the successful candidate is expected to maintain an active research profile, as well as a commitment to teaching and service at undergraduate and graduate levels. This position will also involve administrative duties and committee participation. The school currently offers six BFA degrees and an MA and PhD by research.

ADM is the first comprehensive art school in Singapore. It provides a studio-based professional education in a comprehensive university setting, providing students with the knowledge and skills to develop, and produce groundbreaking creative artworks and related scholarly activity. ADM also promotes Singapore’s creative culture and identity, and is positioned to play a central role in the transformation of Singapore into a regional centre of art, art history, media and design.

The salary and level of appointment offered will commensurate with experience and qualifications. Information on emolument and general terms and conditions of service is available on the University website.
