when you think of dutch design, its contemporary designers springs to mind: droog, marcel wanders,
hella jongerius and others. however there is much more to dutch design both contemporary and historical.
the new exhibition ‘limited/unlimited’ being exhibited in rotterdam’s museum boijmans van beuningen
examines the past one hundred years of dutch design. the show covers furniture of course, but also
other key fields such as graphic design, product design, transportation and more. the show looks at
some of the key pieces which emerged from the small country during each decade. this will include
both unique objects and products of mass production. the exhibition was prompted by the publication
of the museum’s curator mienke simon thomas’ new book ‘dutch design. a cultural history’.
