Temporary Shelters for Earthquake’s Homeless by Ming TangAfter a magnitude 7.9 earthquake struck central China last May, killing69,000 people, injuring hundreds of thousands and leaving millionshomeless, China is planning an extensive reconstruction project thatincludes building more than 1.5 million temporary homes, which areexpected to last two or three years. The central feature of Ming Tangproject is the development of a temporary shelter for the homelesspeople, a kinetic structure that exhibits characteristics of umbrellaand folded fans, with the potential of arranging themselves intovarious contexts and dwelling requirements.
