The 13th International Architecture Competition by Jacques Rougerie Foundation Is Open For Entries

Creators, thinkers, artists, talented women and men: the Planet is waiting for you!

For the 13th edition of its international architecture and innovation competition, the Jacques Rougerie Foundation once again invites you to push back the limits. By encouraging you to be brave and bold, the Foundation calls on you to share your wildest dreams. As every year since 2009, the Jacques Rougerie Foundation - Academy of Fine Arts offers a unique opportunity to propose innovative, daring and disruptive projects, focused on climate, ocean and space. 

Based on emerging advances, this call for creativity encourages a forward-looking vision and cross-disciplinary skills (science, sociology, climatology, geography, etc.) in the face of the environmental challenges of today and tomorrow.

The architectural concepts of the projects will be evaluated according to the following 9 criteria:

- Place of the human in the project

- Biomimicry & bio-inspiration

- Architectural quality

- Prospective dimension

- Innovation & technique

- Sustainable development

- Graphic quality

- Respect of the fundamental physical laws (technical and technological bases imaginable as realistic or possible in the future, even distant)

- Respect of the theme 

Three international Grands Prix reward biomimetic and multidisciplinary architectural projects:

In 2023, the Jacques Rougerie Foundation - Academy of Fine Arts will reward candidates presenting an architectural project related to the field of space, the sea, climate and rising waters, by awarding prizes of a cumulative amount of €40,000 (forty thousand euros).

A Grand Prize "Architecture and Innovation for the Sea".

Free subject or among one of the following themes: the coast and the sea, the ports of the future, the village under the sea, the center of the sea ....

A Grand Prize "Architecture And Innovation For Space".

Free subject or among one of the following themes: the lunar or martian village, an orbital space port or on a star, a research station on one of the moons of Jupiter or Saturn....

A Grand Prize "Architecture And Innovation Related To Climate And Rising Waters".

Free subject or among one of the following themes: the rise of water, the coastline and the sea in general or in particular (e.g. African coastline), submersions, erosions, living with the rhythm of the tides...

The "Architecture and Innovation Lab" special prize

The jury reserves the right to choose from among all the applications of the candidates selected in phase 2 a project that has responded to one of the three themes (the Sea, Space, Climate and rising waters) by its ability to provide an experimental response in the near future (2050), and to be implemented or prototyped, and will award it the Architecture and Innovation Lab Prize. 

Registration is open until September 14. As every year, the applications will be evaluated by a prestigious international jury. The award ceremony will take place at the end of the year, in the presence of international personalities of architecture, sea and space.
