Barcelona-based multi-disciplinary practice Studio Andrew Trotter has converted three white stone country houses into a bed and breakfast amongst olive trees in the countryside of Oria, Puglia, Italy.
Named Borgo Gallana, the project consists of the renovation of three traditional houses by using its original structural systems. The new version of three houses brings a fresh look, calmness and serenity into three houses.
While its material palette plays a key role to define these properties, guests enjoy the refreshed feeling of country house when they are inside.
Studio Andrew Trotter renovated two existing structures in the land and designed a courtyard between them by adding two staircases on both sides.
In addition, the studio extended existing houses in order to obtain three self-contained houses.
The first house, named Casa Camino, consists of king-sized bed, bathroom with shower, large living and dining room with a beautiful original fireplace, kitchen, private courtyard with outdoor bath and shower, and a private terrace with outdoor kitchen and dining, stone sofa and lemon tree garden.
The second house, named Casa Luce, includes king-sized bed, bathroom with shower, large living/dining/kitchen, private courtyard with outdoor bath and shower, and private terrace with a stone bench and outdoor kitchen.
Casa Limone is the third house that offers king-sized bed, bathroom with shower, dining and kitchen, private courtyard with outdoor bath and shower, and private terrace with outdoor kitchen and dining, stone sofa and lemon tree garden.
The studio also designed a 40-square-meter pool on the other side of the land.
During construction process, the studio used the exisiting vaulted ceilings and cement floors throughout the whole property.
Tufo, known as a local sandstone, was chosen as the main material used for the construction of the structures.
In the interiors, the team also created bespoke solutions such as locally-made bathroom sinks and kitchen tops.
The interiors were furnished and styled with vintage tables, chairs, ceramics and lamps; and brands like Frama, Lumina, Bongio, Tine K, Gervasoni and local tableware Nicola Fasano.
Studio Andrew Trotter used outdoor metal wall lamp in black powder coated finish in the outdoor areas.
Based in Barcelona, Studio Andrew Trotter is a multi disciplinary practice working on international projects from architecture and interior design, to product design and design consultancy.
The office's philosophy is based on the simplicity of ideas and design of buildings belonging to the place where it is built.
