Design Shanghai, Asia’s largest and leading international design event series, has scheduled its 2022 event due to the on-going Covid-19 outbreaks in China, announced by the organizers.

The event was originally planned to take place from 13 to 15 October 2022 at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre in China but the show will now take place from 8 to 11 June 2023.

According to the organizers, this date will also coincide with the 10 year anniversary of Design Shanghai and will be a monumental event.

"The decision has been made in response to the continuing uncertainty and challenges to events during the on-going Covid-19 outbreaks in China," said the organizers of Design Shanghai. 

"Safety remains a top priority for exhibitors, visitors and the design community," they added.

"It’s been a difficult decision, but with the ongoing uncertainty in China and concerns over health and safety and security of venues, we have reluctantly decided to postpone the show until June next year," said the PR team of the event. 

Currently, different cities in China face with strict measurements and lockdowns due to coronavirus outbreaks. Chengdu city is the latest city that has gone locked down, while Shenzhen will adopt "tiered antivirus restriction measures" starting this week. 

Shanghai also went to a two-stage lockdown earlier this year - from the end of March, the measurement were lifted in June. 

Design Shanghai is one of hotly-expected design events of Asia. Thomas Heatherwick, Michael Pawlyn, Keming Wang Elaine Yan Ling Ng, Aldo Cibic were among the speakers in Design Shanghai Forum 2021. 

The event showcases the best design brands and galleries from across the globe, providing a unique and exciting platform to network and establish long-term business relations with Asia's top architects, interior designers, property developers, retailers and private buyers.

The organizers stated that "next year, the event will return in all its glory to the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre and to mark the 10 year milestone the show will see a major expansion including additional features and attractions." 

Showcasing more than 500 international brands from 30 countries and regions, the event presents a stage where the global design community can unite, converse and present solutions about today’s cultural topics and challenges surrounding design, architecture and technology. 

"Design Shanghai 2023 is set to be the strongest event in the show’s history," the organizers added.

Design China Beijing and Design Shenzhen will be happening as scheduled, they added.

The Sustainable Design China Summit, presented by Design China Beijing, takes place from September 26 to 28, 2022 at the China World Summit Wing, China World Trade Centre in Beijing. 

The inaugural edition of Design Shenzhen will be held from 1 to 4 December, 2022 at Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center.
