Moscow-based architecture firm SKNYPL has transformed the rooftop of the Seoul Hall of Urbanism & Architecture into an multipurpose event and meeting space with many green inflatables.

Placed atop the Seoul Hall of Urbanism & Architecture in South Korea, the design aims to reinterpret the traditional Korean Garden as a unique landmark and new contemporary public space for further gatherings and events.

The design was also submitted to the Seoul Maru Competition and now it complements the rooftop of the Seoul Hall as a new public space which allow visitors to sit, relax, read, play and create interactive conversation with inflatables.

Traditional Korean Gardens are known for their "informal, nature and unforced settings with nature and rock formations" in it. With design, SKNYPL created a contemporary look of traditional Korean Garden by maintaining its own philosophy - but with more modern materials.

SKNYPL said that "personifies the Korean garden, explores it and gives it new meanings. Its color and shape evoke associations with plants, stones, and hills, which form the basis of the theory of harmony in the Korean garden."

"However, this garden is unusual, it is transformed under the influence of new qualities laid in it by context, time and new events – multi-functionality, flexibility, provocation and dialogue, and sustainability."

Dubbed as New Korean Garden, the installation is made of ETFE material, which is filled with air, to be more light and mobile. Also, the material is convenient and recyclable.

The building is publicly accessible to all visitors and when people enter in, they can find their own, playful environment since the installation contains some "flying components" that help mobility and being the sign of the building from far away.

The installation will also become the important part of the 2019 Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, which will run from September 7 to November 10, 2019.

Since some components are mobile and flexible to be changed, they will also help shape and change the space for lectures and exhibitions during the Biennale. Speakers will be able to prepare their site according to their own needs.
