David Adjaye revises plans for his first skyscraper in New York

British architect David Adjaye's firm David Adjaye Associates has released a revised version of plans for its first skyscraper in New York - a new luxury tower will be located in downtown Manhattan's financial district, very close to the World Trade Center site.

The newly-released images show a very different façade design than the images previously released earlier this year, which included golden-arched windows as the studio's early conceptual study.

In the new version of plans, the 800-feet (243 metres) high tower is clad with dark hand-cast concrete, creating deep contrasting with smooth bronze transitions in the interior layer of the building.

Developed by Lightstone Group, Adjaye's first condominium will contain 66 stories and 244 luxury residences as well as two floors of amenity spaces, including a wine cellar, pet spa, pool, sauna and massage room, fitness center, basketball court, yoga studio, lounge and game room, screening room, children’s play area, and a rooftop observatory terrace offering expansive views.

Called 130 William, the new luxury development will be one of the tallest in lower Manhattan and one-of-a-kind development, featuring luxury condominiums with unparalleled river views and amenities.

"The design for 130 william acknowledges the tower’s location on one of the city’s earliest streets," said David Adjaye.

"Understanding that rich history, I was inspired to craft a building that turns away from the commercial feel of glass and that instead celebrates new york’s heritage of masonry architecture with a distinctive presence in manhattan’s skyline," he added.

130 William will be the first skyscraper project of Ghanaian-British architect David Adjaye after completed his first New York City building in Harlem called the Sugar Hill Development.

"We had strong demand from the lending community for this loan. It was a complicated and obviously large transaction. The Mack team’s knowledge of development and keen understanding of its nuances was instrumental in its consummation," said Lightstone President Mitchell Hochberg.

"130 William Street will be a world class luxury condominium with amazing views of the New York Harbor, Manhattan and Brooklyn. It will be one of the tallest buildings in lower Manhattan, and we're proud to be developing what will be a remarkable 800-foot luxury condominium, complete with superior amenities," he added.

The investor company Lightstone Group stated that construction work started on the $305-million tower and sales are expected to commence in early 2018.

David Adjaye, conceived as a new rising-star of architecture, made his big breakthrough with The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington D.C. Adjaye received knighthood as part of the Queen's biannual honours programme earlier this year.

Besides that, TIME Magazine named David Adjaye as world’s most influential architect among Time Magazine's 100 influential people of 2017 and he was the only architect named in the list under ''Artists'' category and ''Icons'' subcategory.
