AIA NY Chapter presents a film and lecture on

A new film and lecture will explore "100 Women Architects" working in the studio of Frank Lloyd Wright - this special film will be screened at the Center for Architecture in New York on June 28th at 6 p.m. Titled as "100 Women Architects in the studio of Frank Lloyd Wright", the film will explore the traces of remarkable careers of six women architects as well as Frank Lloyd Wright's long history of working with women in his studio.

"At a time when few architectural firms hired women, Frank Lloyd Wright unhesitatingly employed women, giving them both training and the opportunity to practice. Ultimately, over 100 women architects and designers worked with Wright, many of them going on to remarkable careers of their own," stated the AIA New York Chapter.

"In his studio in Oak Park and at both Taliesin Fellowships, Wright trained and practiced with women as draftsmen, designers, and fellow visionaries. They are Frank Lloyd Wright's unknown legacy, and their practice forms a legacy for all women working in architecture today."

Especially, Marion Mahony is a well-known architect who worked in Wright's studio from 1895-1909, and went on to collaborate with Walter Burley Griffin on the 1911 winning design for Australia's national capital, Canberra.

Speaker Dr. Anna Rubbo will explore some of MMG's contributions to architecture, urbanism and landscape architecture in the US, Australia and India, and reflect on her contemporary relevance.

Dr. Anna Rubbo has published widely on the architect Marion Mahony Griffin, and in 2009 gave the inaugural Marion Mahony Griffin Annual Lecture at the National Library in Canberra. She wrote the Chicago Elmhurst History Museum exhibition "In her own right: Marion Mahony Griffin" (October-March 2017), now showing in Mason City, Iowa. Since 2012, Rubbo has been a Senior Researcher in the Center for Sustainable Urban Development at Columbia University.

The film and lecture will be held between June 28, 6-8 pm at the Center for Architecture 536 LaGuardia Pl, New York. The cost of the event ticket is $40.00 for guests but $30.00 for AIA and PWC members. Register to the event here
