All of the architects involved appear to have the best of intentions with their proposals and contributions to the show. There’s nary a trace of cynicism in sight when, in the introduction to the exhibition’s catalogue, Gadanho expounds on how architecture can help to fix the “increasingly lopsided” distribution of resources in cities. Somewhere in the catalogue there’s probably reference to the fact that architects and urbanists are partly responsible for building such stratified cities, but you’d have to dig deep to find that admission. It’s nowhere to be seen in the exhibition proper, where whimsical renderings, a hypothetical products catalogue, various statistics, and a barrage of housing estate and shantytown photographs are meant to “prompt a critical understanding of present problems,” according to the curator.....Continue Reading
