World Architecture Festival has started with a trick question for architects and all educators in the Arena Berlin today. Housing: a global perspective session has focused on some major questions about housing and vague urbanism in our cities. The theme of Housing For Everyone will be discussed by many global leaders, architects and experts at the Main Stage of WAF starting on Wednesday, November 16 and will end on Friday, November 18, 2016.
Chaired by Paul Finch, programme director of WAF, the session interrogated where will all these people live? What sort of housing and cities will they occupy? What will be the role of architects and urban planners in the creation of new and/or intensified environments?
Dick van Gameren, editor, DASH-Delft Architectural Studies on Housing, TU Delft, Partner, Mecanoo Architecten, has made a short presentation about formal/informal housing conditions. Gameren explained how they work with students to develop new housing projects for different cities, which create some challenging situations to discuss. ''Students always eager to learn and push the boundaries which we already know'' said Gameren.
The session has continued with some trigerring questions asked by Paul Finch by insisting that What is the right scale of housing projects? How do architects approach to maintenance conditions of housing? Who teaches these maintenance conditions at schools? How should we define housing identity in the complex urban issues?
To more highlights, stay in tune!
