Morton Silverstein, a documentarian on social ills, dies at 86

''Silverstein has a top reputation for probing documentaries. His films are far from simplistic and often deal with complex relationships of law, government, politics and social abuses. They are documentaries that require the most rigorous research as they often end up in naming names and pointing the accusatorial finger,'' said Alan Rosenthal in his 1980s book titled ''The Documentary Conscience: A Casebook in Film Making.'' In this book, Rosenthal also interviewed with Morton Silverstein on Banks and the Poor,  Eye on New York, etc.. 

Morton Silverstein, an Emmy Award-winning documentarian whose probing television films tackled a wide range of social injustices, died on Saturday in Manhattan. He was 86.
