'Architectural View On Turkish Megaprojects', a special session at MIPIM 2016 has focused on the latest urban regeneration projects in Turkey comparing to other cities in the world. The speakers of this session included Prof. Dr. C. Abdi Güzer, Murat Kader, senior partner at İki Design Group, Enis Öncüoğlu, Oncuoglu Architecture and Planning, Murat Tabanlioglu, Tabanlioglu Architects, Cuneyt Ozdemir, Journalist (moderator).
Turkey's megaprojects were discussed from many perspectives that change the way of producing, selling and buying strategies in terms of real estate and architectural production. The densitiy, problematic infrastructure and inequality of income were seen as the key factors for architects and investors. The paradox between architects and clients in Turkey creates dilemma to implement more pragmatic solutions in architecture and urban design projects because of the imbalance of land values. 'We create mixture of buildings which are not controlled' said Güzer. 'This creates 'a sense of placelessness' because we are blurring differences between urban and rural' added Güzer.
