’’The problem is ownership in architecture’’ says Lars Kruckeberg from Graft Architects

''The problem is ownership in architecture. If you do not own something, you can not jump the order'' says Lars Kruckeberg, Principal of Graft Architects, who spoke in the second day of World Architecture Festival in Arena, Berlin. It’s the second day of WAF and the festival is well underway.

Lars Kruckeberg has spoken in today's most-anticipated session titled 'Architects as instigator' asking that How can architects address societal needs around the globe, using their skills to initiative help for people in need, rather than waiting for the next client? Whether acting as their own client or as advisors, how can professionals today advance the role of the architect as a way of actively nurturing the development of liveable spaces and environments for all?

Chaired by Jeremy Melvin, Curator, World Architecture Festival, Kruckeberg evaluated architects as an activist and he said that ''good design is not a privilege. Architects are the game changers and they work on a building that should be economic, ecologic and aesthetic, I mean social beauty''. Kruckeberg also presented his new book released by Graft Architects named 'Architecture Activism'.

The architect discussed the topic over Graft Architects' new projects in Africa, Ethiopia including Solarkiosk and Pink Tents in New Orleans. The architect in conversation with Jeremy Melvin, evaluated different communities and needs living in Berlin and Africa.

''The needs of community in Africa are different than Berlin's community'' said the architect. ''African people mostly suffer from lack of social identity and infrastructural problems, the problem is different there.  So, we see different types of communities we need to consider. But, there are a lot of instigators in Berlin so you can build for a purpose, the only problem is ownership that you can control,'' added Kruckeberg.
