Born in Uruguay and raised in Argentina, Rafael Viñoly has practiced architecture for
forty-five years. As principal of Rafael Viñoly Architects PC in New York, he has completed many critically and publicly praised buildings worldwide.

The firm’s seminal projects include the Tokyo International Forum; the Howard Hughes Medical Institute Janelia Farm Research Campus in Ashburn, Virginia; and Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. In 2008, New York’s Brooklyn Children’s Museum; the University of Pennsylvania Health System’s Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine in Philadelphia; “Curve,” a theater in Leicester, England; the Fortabat Collection in Buenos Aires; and Edificio Acqua in Punta del Este, Uruguay; will reach completion.

Founder of his firm’s training and research program for architects, students, and design professionals, Rafael is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, an International Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and a member of the Japan Institute of Architects.
