Mediatheque in Vilnius (final project of Master studies)

The determined territory is in Vilnius Old Town between Odminiu, L. Stuokos-Guceviciaus, Šventaragio streets and Gedimino avenue.

Externally closed white “crystal of information” is settled in the corner of the quarter, where open public space graduates to the sloping exploitable roof divided with terraces.

The relation between new building and historical past is being created:water under the transparent basement floor affects as the reminiscence of the confluence of two rivers – Kacerga (Vingre) and Vilnele.
Terraced sloping roof opens the view to the historical valley of Šventaragis, the castle and the Catedral.

Contenporary building of mediatheque harmoniously fits in the fiber of Vilnius Oldtown and finishes the western space of the Catedral square.

The public space of the city, new media and historical context is integrated in the architectural expression
of the building. Open for society and different individual interests public space of information is created.

After the historical and contectual analyses it is proposed to discuss the possibility of a new construction in the territory.
