Ann Beha Architects completed the restoration of Jordan Hall, a 1000-seat concert hall designed in 1903 by Edmund Wheelwright. As the centerpiece of the campus, this National Historic Landmark serves as the New England Conservatory’s largest classroom, with a schedule of rehearsals and performances that range from opera to jazz, solos to symphonies every day. This project included complete modernization, with particular attention to preserving its sense of intimacy and its famed acoustics. The project was completed in four months, between spring and fall classes. With substantial improvements to public access, safety and comfort, the restoration of Jordan Hall reinforced the Conservatory’s dedication to both the training and showcasing of musicians, and has remained a valuable cultural resource to the City of Boston. The project received honor awards from the Boston Society of Architects, the Boston Preservation Alliance, and the Massachusetts Historical Commission.
