Set in the blue expanses of the Aegean archipelago, Gundari Resort in Folegandros by Block722 was designed to be at one with its Cycladic Island setting. This is a Greek eco-resort conceived to be fully in tune with its rich context, drawing on its precious, pristine cultural and natural landscape to craft an environment that offers guests a cohesive experience of tranquillity and gentle adventure. Designed in Block722’s signature warm minimalism, this hospitality complex is curated to draw on the island’s visual language and heritage – from the colours used, which were inspired by the surrounding rocky outcrop and sea; to the materials’ anchoring effect; and the overall composition, which nods to historic Aegean village formations.

Built entirely in natural materials, such as marble, wood, clay, stone and gravel (the last two recycled from the site), and neutral, organic tones, Gundari is an opportunity to slow down and experience Greek island living in all its glory. Spaces draw on traditional Aegean Island settlements, centred on flexible, indoor/outdoor relationships, simple, pared down volumes, local craft, and techniques that echo the Cycladic architectural vernacular. This is a destination that thrives in its wild context. Expertly immersive, it directs the visitor’s gaze towards the blue horizon’s infinity, making the most of the drama and character of its secluded setting. At the same time, it is built in a way that ensures minimal impact on the landscape, bolstering this design-led, eco-resort’s considerate nature.
