To negotiate equations is not an easy task. Differently from the recipe, these ingredients are not manipulatable. This proposal succeeded because the people and the contractor believed and lived the process, the materials and the places were respected in their characteristics.
The interdisciplinary management of Córrego do Meio begins with the demands from Vale, that needed to rehabilitate an area where it had intervened before, preparing a plan of ecological recuperation and returning the area to the city. It fell to the biologists the ecological recuperation. Nevertheless, the area raises an activity constituted of a web of human, social and space relations that were already pre-established and documented by the time along 65 years of activity.
From this moment on, it was necessary to extend the ecological recuperation to the recuperation of the space, attribution given to us, architects. We prepared the proposal of rehabilitating the infrastructure, which is a cultural wealth, to the new uses and, more than that, to re-use the materials that were there, by the job of local workers.
Once the demands were established, a thorough reading of this place was necessary, as well as its appropriation. All demands for Córrego do Meio could only be resolved there, and there was no format able to such understanding.
The project gained credibility and granted knots of pertaining. Ironsmiths created fittings, sewed sunscreens; biologists stipulated uses, lifted structures, built; architects heard, proposed, drew and debated any idea.
Córrego do Meio breaks a great paradigm of the construction: there is no order of importance of the professionals inside the process. The process of creation and the knowledge are shared, not manipulated.
In the 6 projects that we will show here, the process was always more important than the final product, since it was the process that made possible that the human relations and consequently the space relations did not become ruin.
The directives based on the sustainability inside the whole process of management, guided all the processual relations. This proposal was incorporated by the people involved at different moments.
During the execution of the first projects, the idea that it was necessary and important to extend the reuse of the infrastructure to the scrap metal found in abundance at the mine was essential, since it made all the people involved in the process confident, active and participant. So, the proceeding could be perfected and spread out to all the other projects.
Gradually, the experience was reaffirming the importance of the identity of that place and, mainly, reinforcing knots of pertaining. Intuitively and without the imprisonment of concepts, people have been, for a long time, negotiating and speaking on the legitimation of the sustainability and the importance of the conservation of the cultural landscape.

Agenciar equações não é uma tarefa fácil. Diferentemente da receita, esses ingredientes não são manipuláveis. Essa proposta deu certo porque as pessoas e a Vale acreditaram e viveram o processo, os materiais e os locais foram respeitados em suas características.
A gestão interdisciplinar de Córrego do Meio começa com as demandas da Vale que precisava reabilitar uma área onde interveio, elaborando um plano de recuperação ecológica e devolvendo a área à cidade. Coube aos biólogos a recuperação ecológica. Contudo, a área remonta uma atividade constituída de uma trama de relações humanas, sociais e espaciais que já estavam pré-estabelecidas e documentadas pelo tempo ao longo de 65 anos de atividade.
A partir daí, foi necessário estender a recuperação ecológica à recuperação do espaço, atribuição dada a nós arquitetos. Elaboramos a proposta de reabilitar a infra-estrutura, que é um bem cultural, aos novos usos e, mais do que isso, reutilizar os materiais que estavam lá, aproveitando-se a mão-de-obra local.
