The NRI Bungalow Design in Bodakdev, Ahmedabad is a modern residential home crafted for an overseas client who desired a luxurious yet grounded living experience in one of Ahmedabad’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. Designed by Harikrushna Pattani & Associates, this approximately 4,800 sq.ft. bungalow fuses contemporary spatial logic with contextual responses that elevate everyday living while maintaining a strong sense of comfort and privacy.

Located in the upscale Bodakdev district, the project prioritises clarity of form, fluid circulation and a thoughtful dialogue between built form and landscape. The architecture is composed as an interplay of volumes that articulate public and private zones without unnecessary separation, allowing natural light and ventilation to animate every space.

The bungalow’s spatial layout was developed to promote effortless movement and connectivity. Social areas such as the living room, dining zone and family lounge are organised for openness, yet each holds its own identity through material definition and subtle shifts in level. Expansive glazing and carefully placed openings establish visual links to outdoor spaces, creating a sense of continuity between interior and exterior. Outdoor terraces and landscaped pockets contribute to a layered experience of space, enriching the home’s spatial narrative.

Materiality is central to the design’s expression of modern luxury. A refined palette of warm timber finishes, neutral stone cladding and textured surfaces brings tactile richness to both interiors and façades. Custom joinery and built-in storage systems ensure that every element is integrated with purpose, preserving clean lines and uncluttered volumes. Ambient and accent lighting play a key role in shaping mood — recessed cove lights and feature fixtures enhance architectural forms while supporting functional needs.

Private quarters including bedrooms and family lounges were designed as retreats that balance privacy with spatial openness. Master suites incorporate serene material tones and lighting strategies that promote rest and comfort, while secondary bedrooms are crafted with their own subtle identities. Functional spaces such as the kitchen and utility areas follow ergonomic planning principles, supporting daily living with convenience and efficiency.

Beyond aesthetics, the design emphasizes contextual performance. Passive strategies like cross-ventilation, daylight optimisation and shaded outdoor spaces respond to Ahmedabad’s climate, reducing reliance on mechanical systems while enhancing comfort. Landscape elements are integrated into the architectural narrative planted courtyards and green edges soften edges and provide visual relief.

This NRI bungalow design in Bodakdev stands as an example of how thoughtful architecture can transform a simple residence into a meaningful home. It demonstrates that modern design can be both expressive and deeply rooted in the lived experience of its inhabitants combining spatial intelligence, material refinement and environmental sensitivity into a cohesive architectural response.
