Playas Pass is a vision of what could happen to a Border -crossing station design with the purpose of eliminating stalling automobiles.
Yearly, 11 million autos stall at the border crossing station between San Diego and Tijuana an average of 2 to 3 hours each. We need not explain what that does to the environment.
The idea is to have a 6 level parking structure underneath an existing bull ring at the northest most part of Mexico. The idea is to combine advanced ecological tecnologies in tune with more traditional sustainable and self-sufficient ways of construction.
On average, a traveler going from Downtown San Diego to Rosarito will take approximately 2 hours. The trip back to Downtown San Diego from Rosarito will take another 4 hours, considering the 2.5 hour wait at the San Ysidro Border Crossing Station.
The alternative is simple: An underground electric train traveling at speeds of about 65 to 75 Miles per Hour from Downtown San Diego to The Border Station: 6 minutes, a fast paced check though at the Playas Pass will take the traveler 10 minutes. From The Station to Rosarito with the same TGV type train: 8 minutes. The trip back, another 30 minutes. This totaling 54 minutes round trip vs. 6 hours when traveling by car.
This Station has been entertained by several political leaders in both sides of the border, with no compromiseby any, so far.
