Softening Edges is a 1,600 sq. ft. modern apartment located at Vaishnodevi Circle, Ahmedabad, designed by Harikrushna Pattani & Associates as a tranquil retreat from urban intensity. The concept pivots on a simple yet powerful idea—softening the rigidity of modern interiors through curves, continuity, and tactile warmth.

The spatial language replaces sharp corners with rounded profiles, curved partitions, and flowing joinery, establishing a sense of harmony across rooms. This curvature not only softens the aesthetic but also subtly guides circulation, ensuring that movement feels effortless and natural.

The material palette is refined and minimal, built on muted neutrals such as beige, off-white, and soft taupe. This is complemented with pale woods, velvety upholstery, and matte plaster finishes that together create a calm, cohesive environment. Occasional accent hues—dusty pastels, muted metallics, or darker contrasts—bring depth without disturbing the serenity.

Lighting design plays a pivotal role. Indirect cove lighting, sculptural pendants, and wall washers are strategically layered to highlight textures and curves. Instead of harsh overhead illumination, soft ambient glows bathe the spaces, reinforcing comfort and intimacy.

Spatial planning prioritizes both openness and functionality. The living, dining, and kitchen areas flow seamlessly into each other, while bedrooms are defined yet connected through rhythm, material continuity, and subtle transitions. Smart storage solutions keep the interiors clutter-free, preserving the clean visual language.

Ultimately, Softening Edges is not only about aesthetics—it is about creating a lived experience that feels nurturing, elegant, and calm. The design rejects the sterility often associated with modern interiors, proving that contemporary living spaces can be warm, fluid, and profoundly human.
