Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited is a major Company and has its regional office in Kolkata. In order to provide housing accommodation for its employees 84 apartments for its staff members have been planned catering for executives officers and clerical staff. That was the brief that was given to the Architects.
Prestigious Nine Storied 4 Towers for Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited on Eastern Metropolitan By-Pass, Salt Lake, Calcutta has been designed keeping in mind the local climate, local culture and local material.
One of the prime objectives of the Architects was to making living comfortable within the apartments. Accordingly Architects have prepared the floor plans of each apartment in such a way that the rooms get plenty of breeze, particularly the bed rooms; this has been successfully achieved by appropriate lay out of the bed room along the window openings to bring in the breeze. Appropriate shading devices were provided over openings to keep out sun. Projecting balconies keep out ground heat and create shadows on walls creating a very interesting light and shadow effects, along the width on the external façade of the buildings.
