This is one proposal of a competition in Japan. Theme was “architecture which corresponds to nature.
·Back ground
In Japan, from ancient times, we have long been used it as part of a living, and enjoyed it with an unique sensitivity
However, nowadays, rain in the modern urban space should be seen as a natural exclusion, When it rains, people stay inside buildings avoiding rain. And also, technology to use rain water like flood control make human being separated from the circulation of rainwater.
In the city in such situation we propose a new relationship between humans and rain by inserting small architectures such as environmental devise which control the rain and organize a effective space for human being.
Rain, wet ground, draw a ripple, rise to puddles, stain soil, drip from the roof, we visualize variety of appearance of rain which we normally fail to find.
So, how to make such an effective architecture?
I incorporate various effects and spaces due to climate change into architectures.
And the architectures improve an urban environment by producing and supplying filtered water and releasing cold air
· shape and filtering
I incorporate a layer of soil which filters rain water to an architecture.
If certain water filtration, filtration rate is proportional to the square of the length of filtering time.
The shape of the architecture is decided from this principle.
That shape kept infiltration of rainwater constant.
· change of grass according to climate
I covered the soil by a semi-transparent frosted grass which is etched.
When inside is dry, people can hardly see the soil but, when inside is wet, the grass gets to be transparent, and visualize how the rain penetrates the soil.
