Taichung is a real "slow city.” Taichung presents two different types of slowness. Historical buildings, which can be found in the Central District and around the railway station, contribute to the “static slowness.” On the other hand, the new government buildings and residential blocks of Xitun District have created a “dynamic slowness.” In this project, I aim to present two different types of slowness. I tried to emphasize Taichung city’s two different atmospheres. One is static ruins; the other is a community park. In my opinion, the semi-disused building is shaped into a ruin where people can relax. Moreover, there are new possibilities for repurposing old buildings. Also, transforming the temple from a building into an open park and allowing people to enjoy the open expanse of the baseball field. After analyzing how to destroy the original baseball stadium to be a good ruin, I decided to create one
community center to the original public area on the site. Ruin Drawing In the sketch, In order to study how to destroy the original building, I try to use a one-point perspective to explore the possibility of original structures. Then, I combine different ruin elements in the original baseball stadium to finish the art drawing. Taichung City is a down-shifting city in Taiwan. There are two different types of down-shifting lifestyles in Taichung. They are Static Downshifting and Dynamic Downshifting. The static downshifting usually locates at the center of Taichung; also, the dynamic downshifting usually locates at the new Taichung city. On this site, the northside of the existing baseball stadium represents the Static Downshifting like a ruin. On the other hand, the south side of the existing park showcases the feeling of Dynamic Downshifting.
