A wise urban planner named John Nolen recognized the two biggest assists in San Diego are the bay and Balboa Park. 100 years ago, he suggested creating a Park-to-Bay link. The recent CityLinks study found it to be successful through 25th Street and Cesar E Chavez Pkwy spanning 2.1 miles. The link connects three communities that were joined before the construction of the 94 and I-05 freeways. By connecting Barrio Logan, Logan Heights and Golden Hill to form the Nolen Corridor, we create a place that matters. This thesis recognizes the need for parkland not based on density since it is unstable and dynamic. It focuses on a more solid foundation, for example, walkability and pollution levels according to CalEnviroScreen 3.0. The corridor aims to connect four parks; Balboa Park, Grant Hill Park, Chicano Park and Cesar E Chavez Park by a linear park. Aiming to satisfy all users’ need and promote an active healthy community, the proposal offers a safer and healthier environment for pedestrian, cyclist, and automobile. The study utilizes research, precedents, site visits, site analysis, events like community planning groups and interviews to imagine how such a project can be accomplished. Finally, it develops a computer-based 3D model demonstrating the vision. Images are not enough to imply experience, so a video focusing on the heart of the project to create the “Logan’s Plaza” was also produced. The video includes wayfinding signage, Gateways and placemaking characteristic. The video is available online:

The community has recognized the importance of this by inviting the author to present her project in front of Barrio Logan Community Planning Group, Southeastern San Diego Community Planning Group, Golden Hills Community Planning Group, The Port of San Diego and East Village Resident Group.
