Institute of Jundi-Shapur

Multi-functionality was the main subject in design process. The Gondēshāpūr historical university, Sasanian architecture and Defzul historical context is historical link of this project with the past, ancient past. Institute of Jundi-Shapur will be officially the center of research about The Gondēshāpūr historical university (first university in the world).
Greatness in altitude, concrete and brick material, perforated and tooth walls, underground architecture, semi-open spaces and simple geometry in plan is characteristic of sasanian and defzul traditional architecture that also effective in variety of spaces and response to climate issues. The institute is the link between the past and future. Thus, the project is inspired by the past but is resolutely turned towards the future.
Dezful has a hot semi-arid climate (Köppen climate classification BSh), so the orientation of building is back to sun and use indirect light, material is brick and concrete that is native and have ancient hints, underground architecture and semi-open spaces make the conditions better, also said above, all the items in this design is multi-functional.
