Reconstruction of the yard area at
Federal State Scientific Institution "Scientific
Pedagogical Library named after K. D. Ushinsky" of the Russian Academv of Education.
The library is located in
Moscow in the house N° 3 by the Bolshoy Tolmachevsky Lane, near the Tretyakovskaya metro station.
The complex of buildings that currently houses the library is an architectural monument.
This is an old Moscow city estate of the end XVIII - early XIX century, originally owned (in
1772-1814) by Demidov family.
The Demidov family was a dynasty of Russian industrialists and landowners who, in the 18th and 19th centuries developed the Ural region, setting up iron foundries and arms factories and building whole cities around their ventures.
They also made significant donations and investments in educational and cultural venues, as well as charities and were instrumental in shaping the new image of Russia started by Peter the Great.
The Pavilion in the shape of a trowel is located in the library yard between the main building and the wing on the right. It consists of 3 functional areas. 2 main areas are a lecture hall and a small coffee shop. The "tail" of the pavilion is a long wide bench where you can sit in the summer with coffee and read a book. It stretches from a small courtyard, where mini-exhibitions and markets can be arranged. The openness and transparency of the new structure in the style of deconstructivism contrasts with the classic historical facade of the manor. The main materials are metal and glass.
