Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a behavior disorder. which it difficult for a person to pay attention and control impulsive behaviors. He or she may also be restless and almost constantly active. This kind of behavior has increased lately among children due to the new technological lifestyle and lack of
activities that require a direct connection between the children and nature elements. Lian Tong, Xu
Xiong, and Hui Tan (2016). This behavior need to be changed among children through new approaches
and technique.
Behavior change among children specially in the age of 7-12 is really important, as in this age the
percentage of success in changing their attitude is more successful. ADHD is not only a disorder that
effects the child’s attitude and way of thinking but it also effects his future. The normal treatment for
this disorder is depending only one the physical treatment neglecting the effect and the opportunity of
the setting and its interior design which can be as important as the treatment. The opportunity of using
natural resources and local material to create a place with the right standards, requirements, color, light
and even sound can help the child to overcome this disorder. Therefore, this kind of approach proposes
the human centered design which supports the needs, concerns and all requirements the person of this
disorder needs.
My project is to create a work space where interior plays a huge role in the ADHD treatment and
also a place which serve the environment having zero energy consumption, using the right design
elements through the biophilic design approach will offer a place to retrieve the connection of nature
and kids that helps in the behavior change of this disorder.
Issues
Insufficient usage of interior methods to be part of psychological treatments
Lack of creativity in designing treatment centers for the ADHD disorder
Absence of integration between interior design ad psychology
Aims
Exploring the design elements that can be part of the disorder treatment
Reaching a design concept through the biophilic design approach
Formulate design program through the integration of interior design and ADHD
Research methodology
Descriptive research:
Reviewing and reading articles about ADHD and the behavior change associated with it.
Using previous research about relation between nature and ADHD treatment
Gathering information about interior elements and colors which related to the behavior change.
Studying the mechanism od assembly and disassembly structures.
Information about human centered deign and ADHD patients.
Analytical research:
Surveys to collect data from specialists about the idea of the relation of nature and ADHD
Interviews with ADHD patients to know their idea of an idol workspace design for them
Case studies (local, regional and international) through their design
