JOURNEY

Each culture, consist with stories. However those stories, didn't appeared in a second. Those stories appeared in adventures, in journeys. Without movement there would be no action. Therefore, A Visitor Center would be perfect for a tell a story, introduce a CULTURE. In the located site there is an archeological site which is Smyrna, you probably going to think this project is focused on history but no. Choosing the Smyrna would be too easy and it would not connect to the neighborhood, the people living in there. Therefore we researched the site more detailed and we found a small bazaar. Which this bazaar is for Women of Bayraklı. They creates their own crafts like sewing clothes or toys, even small trinkets which designed around Turkish Culture and sell those items in that Bazaar, and this is actually a promise from Bayraklı Municplity to give women financial freedom. With that we found our goal, we wanted to promote this action and design a place which will work as a exhibition area around women role in Turkish Culture and put workshops to give education to Turlish women to improve themselfe and promote their financial freedom. Therefore we added one more item to our program list, gift shop or a bazaar.

After that we come to find our design idea. We found our goal and the question left for us is how we are going to pull people in here? Then we thought magnetic field in psyhic and how it pulls metals to itself and we referenced that idea for our design idea because we wanted to pull and move around the people in the building. Because Journeys only created with movement and we wanted to give people an adventure. That's why we used a circular form, make people move around and travel in the mass and stay in the site. While we designing we tried to avoid dense strairs to make movement easier, it is easy to use ramp compared to stairs. Even when we used stairs we tried to use as couple of steps at a time to make movement easier. After that when people get in the building we wanted to make people still feel in the society, in center area because culture is builded around society. Therefore every area which used frequently we placed them a space which can see the center area. Even bridge and green roof made for give user a view to center area and it's surroundings.
