The mosque, masjid in Arabic, is the Muslim gathering place for prayer. Masjid simply means “place of prostration.” Though most of the five daily prayers prescribed in Islam can take place anywhere. Mosques are also used throughout the week for prayer, study, or simply as a place for rest and reflection. The main mosque of a city, used for the Friday communal prayer, is called a jami masjid, literally meaning “Friday mosque,” but it is also sometimes called a congregational mosque in English.
The architecture of a mosque is shaped most strongly by the regional traditions of the time and place where it was built. The mosque is following the traditional architecture of the region but with a contemporary touch.
The main inspiration behind this project was the mountain which was the first place to help itikaf in it; Iʿtikāf is an Islamic practice consisting of a period of staying in a mosque for a certain number of days, devoting oneself to ibadah (worship) during these days and staying away from worldly affairs. Representing the whole mass as a whole mountain and covering it with a shading device to represent the mountain caves.
The dome was inspired by the Takhtabush; Takhtabush is the Arabic term for a tablinum. Like the ancient Roman tablinum, it opens onto a heavily shaded courtyard and, on the other side, a rear garden. in this case instead of the garden, the Takhtabush was located above the prayer hall which is the main element in the project. It was located there to help lighten the place with natural light and help to create a passive natural ventilation for the space.
Minarets take many different forms—from the famous spiral minaret of Samarra, to the tall, pencil minarets of Ottoman Turkey. Not solely functional in nature, the minaret serves as a powerful visual reminder of the presence of Islam. The minaret in this project was inspired by the spiral minaret of Samarra, but in a square based shape treated with both plated concrete panels and glass openings for natural light.

In the prayer hall i preferred to use a waffle slab to help minimize the columns in the area to make the place more comfortable for the worshipers while praying, also the courtyard could be used as an outdoor praying area in the crowded times such as Friday prayer, as we mentioned the courtyard is covered with a wooden shading device to help creating a feeling of the cave.
