Designed by Master Architect Feza Ökten Koca for the brand FEZA, "Waveshelf" stands out against repetitive, ordinary and rigid products with its amorphous forms inspired by nature.
Waveshelf, designed by Master Architect Feza Ökten Koca for the brand FEZA, was inspired by four words: plain, fluid, naive, and shocking. Intended to reflect something that is more natural and more human than industrial, the bookshelf’s vertical and horizontal components juxtapose the rectangular books that line them, thus giving it a soft, amorphous look and feel.
Waveshelf’s vertical surfaces function as points of origin. The horizontal surfaces retract either inwards or push outwards in sync with the depth of their vertical counterparts, wherever they happen to intersect. Nothing on Waveshelf repeats itself, or is common or hard in terms of form.
The shelves are 1 cm-thick MDF boards finished with lacquer-based paint. The interlocking system that is created between them and the vertical panels shows just how simple it is, not only in terms of design but also assembly. The designer moreover obsessively took it upon themselves to make sure that not even a single screw or nail would show itself anywhere on the Waveshelf.
Waveshelf has the potential to come in a wide variety of sizes and colours. Currently there are two versions of the bookshelf. There is the original, 296 x 48 x 236 cm Waveshelf, which is finished in white lacquer. There also is 176 x 30 x 176 cm Waveshelf Small, complete with 6 vertical panels, 6 shelves, and that gradates from a dark gray colour into white, lending it more than one colour and form effect depending from which angle your looking at it.
