As the world is currently passing the tipping point in global warming, there has to be an increase in looking to building with sustainable materials. By using wood, the construction industry can cut down 40% of its current greenhouse gases emissions. As an aspiring architect, I am studying the wood system that I researched and hope to use the system to create an efficient way of constructing.

The site that I have chosen to focus on is in the state of Para, Brazil. Deforestation had been slowly decreasing but unfortunately, the past year’s C02 emission has been at its highest in a decade. This is due to an increase in mining and harvesting the Amazon Rainforest as it is a massive area of profit for the people of Brazil. The problem is exemplified by the newly elected president that has vowed to open up the Amazon to increase the country’s GDP.

Furthermore, with an ever-increasing problem of poverty and widening of the wealth gap, the poor are at their edge. As the government is finding strategies to reduce the urban population, I find it to be a suitable opportunity for me to step in and create a way of life, a community for the people to redistribute wealth back to them and give them a place to live for.
