The brief was to design a retirement home for a couple, set in the lap of nature at Nandi Hills. Nandi Hills is a small hill town about 60 kms away from the hustle of Bengaluru.
The design required a climate-oriented approach with a sloping roof, sunlight permeability and emphasis on ventilation. We came up with something unique in the form of a sloping roof flowing inwards to form the habitable volumes. The volume inside is punctuated with voids to allow for natural ventilation and visibility. Early morning sunlight flows in through the skylight bringing the whole house to life.
The triangular-prism volume was then sub-divided vertically, which became the 3 levels of the house. A person enters into the living space, climbs up to the bedrooms on the second level and further to the recreational area on the third.
