Abstract

Air transportation has a keen role to play in improving the economy of a sovereign country. Almost all the intercontinental transport is done through air travel industry. The advent of modern and huge aircrafts to the industry has changed the infra structure of aerodromes. In Pakistan there are no as such amendments seen for the accommodation of huge aircrafts such as Airbus A380, DC- 101 etc. According to a recent report, Pakistan has bought an Airbus A380 and also signed for 10 of these aircrafts on 3.8 Billion $ lease which are expected to be in service in the end of 2010. Allama Iqbal International has a runway span of 9514 ft (Asphalt) which is insufficient for the mentioned aircrafts. Only this airport is expecting the huge birds according to a report and its runway is to be changed from 9514 ft (Asphalt) to 13000 ft (Asphalt).
The ultimate result is that the need of an international airport in the region of N-W.F.P. and Islamabad is an issue for trade and tourism as well. There is no such airport in Islamabad or N-W.F.P. capable of handling the huge aircrafts which are considered efficient and economical. The intend would be to design an airport of international standards in the region.
