This project started with the request from a client to design a beach house that had a fragmented program so that all the volumes and elements of the house were separated by air in order to enhance the views. The client also asked for a linking element that made all the separate parts come together.

Our approach was to think of it as an organism, similar to a coral structure that is fixed to the substrate yet dynamic in its parts. The linking element is a flat structure that grabs the program containers in an informal, sometimes imprecise way. The openings recall those fresh roofs that were so typical in 50’s beach architecture.
