“An Influence from the Ancient Science of Architecture” One of the early influences on the project design was an interest expressed by the user group to explore the principles of Vastu Shastra. Dating back to the Vedic ages, this ancient science of archtiecture focuses on surreal influences such as energy flow and realistic objectives such as the movement of natural light and fresh air. Project Rx entry faces east as, primarily, a positive direction for the influx of divine energy. Such an orientation allowed the architecture to explore departmental organization along a longitudinal axis while exposing a larger side of the building to the northern exposure. Other effects of Vastu can be observed in the use of a reflecting pond in the Northeast quadrant, location of boilers and the higher stair element in the southwest quadrant, and the location of the executive suite on the east end where knowledge is most prevalent. Attached is a sketch of some of the influences Vastu Shastra exhibits on the site for Project Rx.
