The definition of `play` according to the dictionary refers to a experience of voluntary, intrinsically motivated activities that are normally associated with pleasure and enjoyment. The building should be the amusement itself, offering an experience of `fun` rather than accomplishing theoretical opinions such as `five points of architecture` by Le Corbuisier, in order to illustrate a vision for intergenerational recreation, which is interplay.

The ideal solution to engage the existing path is to conserve the shape of meandering pathway and beloved mosaic as it is in present.

We situated various programs and plans which are able to support the generationally diverse desire among people on the existing meandering pathway. Therefore, an explosive interplay station is constructed with the nostalgia of the past which is derived from the meandering shape of the structure. Its function and shape as a passageway to the lakefront for bicycle users and pedestrian in the past may remain in peoples` activities and memories simultaneously.

Every program is linked interactively and they are able to be experienced through multiple seasons and times of day. In addition, programs may be expanded to each direction, forming many clusters along the pathway, which eventually give the possibility of utilizing the site as a whole.

Programs of this structure are composed to stimulate interactions between all of living soul no matter who they are. Residents of different ages, genders, disabilities, classes and backgrounds including racial and cultural variety will be brought together within this viable community playground. Nature and animals are no exceptions to the living soul.


This playground contains the function of existing pathway with multipurpose, main area where activities take place, and the supporting area for the activities.

The access of this place contains the program especially planned for the people who enjoy jogging, and walking. Parcel room for personal goods and bicycles, and playgrounds for the pet area provided.

The first program is a picnic area. This program makes up the cluster around the garden in the middle. People are able to enjoy their picnic both indoor and outdoor with the cafeteria and the supporting area such as kitchen fixtures provided inside the structure.

The second program is for the musical activities. There are two stages both indoor and outdoor in different sizes. In addition, storages for instruments and practicing studio are provided.

The third program is active activity zone. This is the space where people can play imaginatively, and their age is no restriction within. Variety of playing opportunities including the hide and seek, rock-climbing, and room which is full of balls in different sizes are provided to activate peoples` instinct of play.

The fourth program is passive activity zone. This is the space where people can interact with each other in passive ways such as chatting and talking. Reading, sun-bathing, and taking a nap will take place in this area with silent interactions. People are allowed to enhance their relationship with neighborhoods through sustained activities.

All of mankind and living soul possess the rights to have amusement. No matter what they are, opportunity to have fun in daily lives should be given. Special desire to have fun and to play is the common instinct among people and creatures. This common instinct will be the essential source which will bring people together in Cleveland.
