Floating Park is a hybrid structure consisting of three pedestrian bridges that tie together parts of the mountain range in Seoul’s picturesque BukHanSan National Park. The bridges were commissioned by the Sungbuk District Office to provide walkers with a continuous path from mountain to mountain, spanning areas previously only accessible by car.
The bridges do more than function as walkways from one point to another:
They have been designed as elevated platforms with distinct areas carved into their surfaces for performances and gatherings.
One of the bridges, covering 1,200 square feet, consists of a twisted steel canopy that supports a wooden platform with seating and planters. Its lattice-work and organic shape were inspired by asymmetrical forms found in nature. We hope that the curving form will function as a “living landmark” in the landscape. Floating Park will also be illuminated at night, creating a festive event space within the larger park.
