This study is located in Arkansas overlooking the Mississippi River and Memphis, Tennessee beyond. The exercise began with {2} solid pieces of stone, there dimensions escape me at the moment. As architects and students of architecture we deal with the creation of space and non-space. We always seem to begin with infinite space and begin to break it down into compartmentalized spaces to be inhabited by its intended user. This approach looks at beginning with no space, a solid mass, and carving way from it space which can be utilized.

The study program was intended to be used as an Egyptologists "home` or place to perform their work and entertain, perhaps, a guest or two.

Because of the dire importance of water to the egyptian culture over time the intent of the residence is to act as a large drain, for lack of a better term, to reclaim water and celebrate its every importance in our existence.

The drawings are hand drawn with graphite. {The computer is the great equalizer.} The final picture is a hand drawn case study in which I was able to utilize the horizontal wood strips to reduce thermal gain and the skylight to allow for natural light throughout the day. I hope you enjoy it, thank you.
